Dr. Hughes grew up in Maryland. At a young age she fell deeply in love with horses and began horseback riding with a passion. It was during one of her many trips to the barn when she decided she would pursue veterinarian medicine after observing her local vet treat one of the barn horses for a case of choke.

Her undergraduate education consisted of Animal Science with a Pre-Vet concentration and a chemistry minor at Berry College before she traveled to Scotland for her veterinary degree. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there, particularly travelling around the Isle of Skye and exploring Europe but is glad to be back in the USA.

When not at work, Dr. Hughes is working on all the projects around her new house with her fiancée, Dr. Wiger, while their four animals – Bjorn, Simba, Freyja, and Cinderella – attempt to assist. When she’s not there, she’s at her sword fighting club or at the barn horseback riding.

Education:

Berry College - Bachelors in Animal Science with a Pre-Vet concentration, minor in Chemistry

University of Glasgow - Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine
