Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center
Outpatient Ultrasound Referral
This form must be completed by the primary care veterinarian and then we will contact the client to schedule their outpatient ultrasound appointment with us. The health and safety of the patient is our primary concern. If we have any questions, a member of our team will be in touch.
This is for stable patients that can wait for an appointment. Unstable patients should admit through our Emergency department.
We expect to sedate all outpatients with butorphanol to facilitate quality imaging. Due to this, we will ask the client to sign a CPR/DNR authorization.
An abdominal ultrasound is a diagnostic test. As such, the findings rarely stand on their own and must be interpreted in light of the entire clinical picture. For this reason, the client will not be provided with an ultrasound report. We will contact you with results within an hour after the ultrasound.
Important Reminders
Please withhold food from your pet for 12 hours prior to their appointment. (A small amount of water is okay.)
Your pet will receive a light sedative for the ultrasound. We expect they will still be able to return home with you at the end of your 1-hour appointment.
Our radiologist will provide a finalized ultrasound report with pertinent key images to your primary veterinarian on the same day the ultrasound is performed.
Your primary veterinarian will contact you to convey the results of the study and create a treatment plan tailored for you and your pet.
If your pet is currently on prescribed medications, please call our office to confirm the medications are okay to give that day.
