Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center
Internal Medicine
Our board certified Small Animal Internal Medicine specialists work with you and your regular veterinarian to provide the comprehensive care your pet needs. Our board-certified small animal internists have extensive training in all aspects of internal medicine and employ the most sophisticated diagnostic techniques in every case they manage. Each pet is an individual, and care, diagnoses, and treatment is tailored to meet your needs and those of your pet.
Procedures
Bone Marrow Biopsies
These are special stains and advanced testing that help identify the type of cancer present more specifically and may be prognostic in some cases.
Diagnostic Tests & Therapies
Our internists have expertise in choosing appropriate advanced tests to diagnose and treat Gastrointestinal diseases, Respiratory, Urinary (kidney, bladder), Liver, Endocrine (diabetes, thyroid, pancreas, hormone), Immune-mediated diseases, blood disorders, and infectious diseases.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is the visual inspection of the interior of various body systems through a small tube containing fiber optics. The endoscope is inserted into an orifice allowing an internist to view inside internal organs. Sometimes the procedure is simply for diagnostic purposes, such as collecting biopsy specimens. Other times, the procedure is used for treatment purposes, such as balloon dilation, stent placement, or removal of a foreign object. We provide many types of endoscopy: upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, nasal cavity, respiratory tract, and urinary tract.
I-131 Radiolodine Therapy
Used to treat hyperthyroidism in cats, this I-131 therapy program is only one of two offered in the state of Wisconsin. The treatment injection is a simple and effective way to treat hyperthyroidism in cats and is 94% curative, with no long-term medication, special diets, or surgery.
Transfusion Medicine
Transfusion medicine consists of determining when a blood transfusion is appropriate, providing the specific type of blood products needed, and closely monitoring patient response to transfusion.
